LEARNING TO FLY AN EAGLE
_ASSEMBLY
-A
new Eagle Microlight is assembled during my
-flying-lessons
at Langar Air field August 1981.
-Controls
are a combination of weight shift, throttle,
-rudders
& elevator fitted to the front canard wing.
_FAST
TAXI ON TOW
-The
Prop' is removed and a tow rope is attached
-between
the Eagle and a car. The instructors sit
-in-what
would normally be the boot of the car .
-Instructions
are given to the trainee pilot via radio
-and-ear
phones in the helmet. Exercises at this
stage are mainly steering with the nose wheel at low speed & via the
wing tip rudders at higher speeds.
_HOPS
ON TOW
-Short
& long hops are practised on tow.
HOPS
WITH POWER
-The
Prop' is re-fitted and one of the two twin
-Chrysler
engines is started. Hops are practised
-with
power.
TANDEM
EXPERIENCE FLIGHT-
-A
second seat is attached. One of the instructors
-pilots
the eagle. This gives the trainee pilot
-experience
at flying at the correct altitude, circuits
-&
landing approach for the first solo flights.
Following the tandem flight, both engines are started on the Eagle
& long Hops are made to practice take off and landing. When the
instructors feel you are ready a wave indicates, GO FOR IT !
